Special Olympics: Area Track & Field!

Yesterday we went to Greater Atlanta Christian School in Swuanee for our Area Track & Field events! We were so excited! The school was beautiful and everyone there was so kind! The picture below is of the Parade of Athletes. Everyone lined up and paraded down the field as their school was announced and everyone cheered!

Our class picture at Area Track & Field!

The girls (DeAsia, Lucy, and Joyria) before they began their 50-meter dash!

Lucy and DeAsia were in the same heat and raced each other! Lucy won first place! DeAsia took her time down the track! Ha! Ha!

Joyria did an awesome job on her 50-meter race and had several high school students from Greater Atlanta Christian School run behind her cheering her on! She loved that and giggled down the entire track!

La'Shawn tried his best during his wheelchair raced and push himself the entire way! Way to Go La'Shawn! That was hard work!

DeAsia loved Mrs. Stowe's hat!

This was the funniest part of the whole day! Lucy and Joyria began with two volunteers that were supposed to assist them in getting to their heats, etc. By the end of the day, they had an entire fan club of high school students! You can't see it very well, but Lucy is the little orange shirt that you see in the center of the circle below. She was actually arm wrestling one of the high school boys! Ha! Ha!

Ms. Kelli (Ms. Malcom's sister) and Santoes were great friends!

Mrs. Higdon, Ms. Malcom, and Mrs. Stowe pose for a picture!

Another funny picture of Lucy and Joyria's fan club! All of the students behind them are a part of their fan club! They followed them around all day, played with them, and gave them lots of attention! They also all cheered for them during the softball throw! :-)

We also ran into one of our old friends from last year, Izaiah! Izaiah was in Ms. Malcom's class last year at Fairview! Ms. Malcom was so happy to see Izaiah and so was Lucy! Izaiah was one of Lucy's best friends in her class last year!

One the way home, Lucy and Joyria sat together on the bus! They are great friends!

DeAsia asked Ms. Malcom many times throughout the day to "give her sugars"! She loved participating in Special Olympics and was so happy all day! You've got to love that girl! She has a special place in Ms. Malcom's heart! Ms. Malcom doesn't mind giving her "sugars" anytime she asks for them! :-)
After a long, exhausting day, Aaron took a nap on the way home! How sweet!

It was a great day! We are sooooo proud of all of our athletes for their hand work and determination! Way to Go!
Thank you so much Ms. Kelli (our room mother) for coming with us and helping us all day! We love you!
