A Special Friend!

DeAsia ran into one of her GREAT friends at the Special Olympics Track & Field events! This was a long time coming because we have been talking about Mr. Will all year! We have told her for months that she would probably see Mr. Will at Special Olympics. Well, DeAsia finally saw him! She was so excited! They even got to sing their old weather song together! Thank you Mr. Will for being so wonderful to DeAsia! You are such a great friend and she will always remember you!

The video below is of DeAsia and Mr. Will at Special Olympics!

Special Olympics Track & Field!

On Tuesday, we went to participate in Special Olympics Track & Field! You can tell by the smile on La'Shawn's face below that we were very excited and ready to compete!

Ms. Malcom always has to sit with DeAsia on the bus! She gives Ms. Malcom hugs and "sugars" the entire way to the field! :-)

Lucy poses in Mrs. Stowe's hat! Too cute!

We were so happy to have Mrs. McDonald (Lucy's mother) and other members of Lucy's family meet us at the field!

Ms. Kelli and Mr. Russell also came back to help! Thank you both so much!

Ms. Malcom takes her group, Joyria and DeAsia, to their Track & Field events!

The girls (DeAsia, Joyria, and Lucy) getting ready for their 50-meter dash!

We saw Coach Wildman there!

We also saw Ms. Bell!

Lucy did a fabulous job on her 50-meter dash! As soon as the whistle blew, she took off running!

Lucy got First place in the 50-meter dash!

She also got a big hug from Mrs. Dew! Check out that GOLD medal!

DeAsia ran into a very special friend. Mr. Will was a great friend to DeAsia for the last few years. She still talks about him often and was very happy to see him!

The dogs from Happy Tails were at the Track & Field events! Joyria is such an animal lover! We basically had to pry her away from this dog so that she wouldn't miss her next event! She loved him!

Ms. Malcom and DeAsia also stopped to pet Bogi, the dog!

Aaron was in Ms. Higdon's group! Below, he gets his medal for running the 50-meter dash! Way to go Aaron!

Between events, the girls also had the chance to get their finger nails painted by some of the high school volunteers! That was fun!

La'Shawn was in Mr. Russell's group! They had a great time together. They even stopped to visit the petting zoo!

I love this picture! Priceless! La'Shawn didn't know what to think about the Chick-Fil-A cow!

Joyria did an excellent job on the softball throw! She threw the softball very far! Great job Joyria!

We had a great time at the Special Olympics Track & Field events! Thanks to all of the student volunteers from Eastside High School. Thanks so Ms. Kelli and Mr. Russell for coming, once again, to help us!
Thanks so Ms. McDonald and Lucy's family for coming to spend this day with us!

Special Olympics Opening Ceremony!

After the parade, we all gathered at the old Sharp gym for the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony! We were so excited to display our banner and participate in the ceremony!

Outside of the gym, we ran into some of Ms. Malcom and Mrs. Stowe's old friends. The triplets, Avia, Kyla, and Tamya (below) were in Ms. Malcom's class at Fairview Elementary two years ago! It was so great to see them and they were just as excited to see us!

Ms. Higdon and Santoes wait in the bleachers for the ceremony to begin!

Ms. Malcom and Mrs. Stowe loved seeing their students from last year. Tradarius (below) is doing so well in middle school! We are so proud of him!

A view of the Opening Ceremony! All of the banners, from every school, were displayed! They were all so beautiful!

Ms. Stubbs, our Special Ed. Director, recieved special recognition because she will be retiring at the end of this year!

The color guard presented the colors before everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem. As they were marching, Ms. Malcom looked over to see Enoch intensely looking at them. He, too, was marching! How sweet!

The graduating seniors ran the torch around the gym!

Lighting the flame! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

After the Opening Ceremony, we had a picnic lunch! Yum!

It was a fun day and we had a great time!

Special Olympics Parade!

On Monday we had our Special Olympics Parade! We were so excited to go, as you can see in the picture below!
Ms. Malcom and Aaron on the way to the Special Olympics Parade!

Once we arrived at the parade, we ran into many of our old friends from last year. Ms. Malcom and Mrs. Stowe got the chance to catch up with Ms. Henderson and Mrs. Vaughn, our friends from Fairview Elementary!

Ms. Malcom got the chance to pose for a picture with a few of her former students, Willie and Jarmorcous!

Mrs. Higdon, Ms. Kelli, and Santoes waiting for the parade to begin!

The parade began and we rode past one of the elementary schools, Ficquett Elementary. All of the students in the school were standing outside cheering for the athletes as they passed. Many of the students even made signs cheering on the athletes! It is really a precious site and certainly brought tears to Ms. Malcom's eyes!

Ms. Cathy Stubbs was the Grand Marshall for the Special Olympics Parade! She is our Special Ed. Director and will be retiring at the end of this year! We will surely miss her!

Ms. Malcom's mother works at Ficquett Elementary. She took these pictures of us! Thanks Mom!

La'Shawn really enjoyed sitting on the back of the truck during the parade! He looked really cool in Ms. Malcom's sunglasses!

Ms. Malcom, Mrs. Stowe, and Enoch wave to the people as they pass! Enoch really got excited about waving to everyone!

La'Shawn waving at the crowd of people on the Covington square!

Lucy waved during the entire parade!

Mrs. Higdon practicing her wave!

Santoes and Ms. Kelli were such great friends. They had a great time together during the parade!

Enoch was so excited and so silly! Towards the end of the parade, he laid on the back of the truck and just giggled! Too cute!

As usual, with the Special Olympics Parade, a great time was had by ALL!

Thanks so much to Ms. Cassandra for allowing us to use her truck and for driving us in the parade! We greatly appreciate it!

Our Special Olympics Banner!

As promised, below is a picture of our Special Olympics Banner! The theme this year was "We're All Winners". This theme couldn't be more appropriate for this group of children! They are definitely all winners!

This picture is so that you can see the bottom of the banner!

Uh-Oh! Ha! Ha! Where did they go?

Ms. Malcom, Lucy, and Joyria getting ready to head out to Special Olympics!

One last group shot!!

WE'RE ALL WINNERS!
