Decorating for the Holidays!

We could not wait to get our classroom decorated for the holidays! So.... on Monday, after Thanksgiving, that's exactly what we did!

Joyria put the Santa hat on as soon as she saw it!

Mrs. Stowe trying on the "tree skirt"! Ha! Ha!

Lucy was such a big help in putting the tree together!

Jameer was a huge help too!

Tony did a great job putting the tree skirt around the tree!

Mrs. Stowe talked to the kiddos about safely plugging in the Christmas tree!

Oh Christmas Tree!!

It is tradition that Enoch put our wreath on our classroom door!

A class picture with our Christmas tree!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Sugar and Fall!

We are so lucky, at South Salem Elementary, to have our own therapy dog named Sugar! Sugar is a great dog and we love when she can come to visit our classroom!

DeAsia absolutely LOVES Sugar!

Lucy, La'Shawn, and DeAsia enjoy some Sugar time!

DeAsia and Eliana enjoying some Sugar time!

I told you DeAsia LOVES Sugar! She laid like this for a long time! Sugar didn't seem to mind!

Jameer loved Sugar too! He wanted to pose for a picture with her!

Time to head to the playground with Sugar!

Such a beautiful picture of Jameer on the playground!
Fall photo shoot! Ha! Ha!

Thanks Sugar for coming to spend some time with us!

Getting Some Work Done!

Eliana did this alphabet train puzzle for morning work! She did a fabulous job and put the entire thing in order all by herself!

Tony and Jameer have been working very hard on their handwriting skills. They have been working on writing their names and recently joined Eliana and Lucy in completing writing journals each morning. We are so proud of them! As you can see by the look on Tony's face (below), journal writing requires a lot of concentration!

Such a cute picture of these girls (Joyria, DeAsia, and Eliana) enjoying reading center!

This week we have been learning about shapes. We've learned how to tell the difference between triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles by looking at the number of sides and angles they have. We also learned that squares and rectangles are called quadrilaterals because they have four sides and four angles. On Monday, we broke up into groups and found pictures of circles, triangles, and quadrilaterals that we would see in real life. The pictures of us presenting our projects to the class are below!

During indoor recess, Lucy, Eliana, Jameer, Mrs. Stowe, and Mrs. Belcher decided to paint some Christmas trees!

Cornhusk Dolls!

In celebration of the upcoming holiday, we have been learning about several vocabulary words relating to Thanksgiving. Today, one of the vocabulary words that we focused on was "corn". We learned about how the Pilgrams used corn to survive as well as different ways that we use corn. We learned that we can plant corn, pop corn, and eat corn.

We also learned that Native American and Pigram children used corn husks to make dolls! We decided to try this out on our own! :-)

Our finished products! They turned out very cute!

Special Olympics Bowling Competition!

Last Friday, we had our Special Olympics Bowling Competition! We were so excited to show what great bowlers we have become through our hard work and practice!
La'Shawn was very excited!

Ms. Malcom gives the girls at "pep talk" before the competition began!

DeAsia, Lucy, and Joyria were all in the same group!

This is a beautiful picture of two great friends!

Jameer, Tony, and Jonathan were all in the same group. Santoes came over to "chat" with his buddies before the competition began!

Seeing these boys together makes my heart smile! Its been a long time since I've had a group of students near the same age that love to play together! These boys have so much fun and look forward to spending time together! They are best buddies!

Enoch receiving his medal from Mrs. Dew! Way to go Enoch!

La'Shawn receiving his medal! We are so proud of you La'Shawn!

The girls' scores were so close! Mrs. Dew awarded all three of them gold medals! Yay!

La'Shawn loved his helper from Alcovy High School!

All in all it was a GREAT competition! All of our students worked soooo hard and we are very proud of them!
