Top Toucan Tyler!

Our Top Toucan for the week of September 28th-October 2nd is....
Tyler Gillis!

Tyler had fabulous behavior for the week previous week and worked very hard in class! Way to Go Tyler! We are all very proud of you!

A Few Fun Pictures from Last Week!

When we returned to the room, from the bathroom, Ms. Malcom asked everyone to return to their seats. Obviously, Enoch and Joyria had the same seat in mind! Ha! Ha!

A group picture at Calendar Time!

Ms. Malcom and Jonathan pose for the camera!

Such a cute picture of Enoch. I had to share!

Graphing Apples!

This week we celebrated Johnny Appleseed. We have also been learning about graphing. So, what better way to combine the two concepts than making and graphing apples.
We worked really hard on making beautiful apples, as you can see below!

Then, we learned how to graph apples by color!

Eliana and Tanayry worked really hard to count the apples and label the graph for us!

The finished product was so beautiful! The glitter on the apples sparkled with the light from the projector!

All of our students did a fabulous job on this activity. We were very proud of their hard work and determination to learn! Way to Go!

We LOVE to Read!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been doing a lot of reading. We have been working on learning our sight words so that we can read books to our families, classmates, and friends. We have also made great use of our Reading center!
Below, Ms. Malcom and Eliana read together in the Reading center!

Every day we have Rocking Chair Reading Time. We love listening to our teachers read us books!

Today, we had some volunteers that wanted to read their sight word books in front of the class! Thanks Lucy, Jonathan, and Eliana for volunteering to read to us! You did a great job!

I am so proud of all of our students that are working so hard to learn to read! Keep up the good work!

In the Deep Blue Sea!

For a few weeks, our theme is "Colors All Around". On Wednesday, we read a story called In the Deep Blue Sea. This story was about all of the different colored fish that can be found in the ocean. After reading the book, we created our own "deep blue sea" murals.
First, we painted our papers blue!

Then, we added some aquatic plants and fish!

We had a great time and learned a lot about the colors that you can find in the ocean!

Caps of Many Colors!

Below is our group picture with all of our caps!

Today, we read a story called Caps of Many Colors. It was about a man that sold caps. He walked from town to town with his caps stacked on top of his head, similar to how Ms. Malcom is doing below! :-)

Below are some pictures of the caps that the students (and teachers) chose to wear!

It was a fun day! The kids (and teachers) enjoyed it and learned a lot! What a great way to learn about different colors!

The Top Toucan is...

I am proud to announce that the Top Toucan for the week of September 14th-September 18th is...
Eliana Edwards!

Eliana has had fabulous behavior and has worked very hard in class. She has learned to write a journal entry and is working very hard on her writing skills. We are so proud of you Eliana! Congratulations!

Swing Batter Batter!

Today we took the bat and ball out to the playground. We had a great time, as you can see from the pictures below!

Santoes was so funny! When Mrs. Stowe threw the ball for him to hat, he would close his eyes and move backwards while swinging! Too cute!

Lucy has quite a powerful swing! She plays for the Miracle League and is a great baseball player! Watch out Mrs. Stowe!

Jonathan's turn!

9/11 Ceremony!

Eight years ago, many lives were lost in the attacks on the World Trade Centers and Pentagon. It is hard to believe that it has been eight years. However, the memory of these events will remain in our thoughts forever. To commemorate Patriot's Day, our school had a 9/11 Ceremony on Friday morning. Below, are some pictures from the ceremony, which took place around the flag pole in front of our school!

Ms. Webb, our Music teacher, led the entire school is singing a few patriotic songs! We also had a chior, made up of many members of the school staff, sing!

Our own Mrs. Holland (on the far left) was recognized for her service in the United States Air Force. Mr. Higdon, Mrs. Higdon's husband (2nd on the right) was recognized for his service as a Police Officer. We give great Thanks to those that have served or continue to serve our country!

Our good friends from Dr. Morrison's class (next door to us) assisted the Color Guard from Newton High School in presenting and raising the flag!

There were so many children at the ceremony. Every class in the school participated! It was a beautiful sight!

God Bless the USA!
