Happy Valentine's Day!

Since we had a snow day on the day before Valentine's day, we didn't get to do all of our fun Valentine's activities that we had planned. However, we did get to make some valentines on Thursday! Below are some pictures of us making our valentines! They turned out very pretty!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Making Paper!

In class, we have been learning about recycling! Ms. Malcom found a cool paper making machine and we got to try it out! First, we took old newspapers, ripped them up, and soaked them overnight!

The next day, the paper was all wet and soft! It was fun to play with and squish!

Next, we put the soaked newspaper into the paper making machine, added a little glitter, and turned the wheel until it turned into a soupy mixture!

We used a mold to shape the soaked paper into a heart. Then, we squished the mold to drain the water!

Our finished product was a heart-shaped piece of paper. Once they dried, we painted them and made Valentines! What a great way to recycle our old newspapers!

Oh Santoes!! So cute!

Subtraction can be FUN!

We learned that subtraction can actually be quite fun, as you can see from the pictures below!
Enjoy!

Learning About our Earth!

Our 3rd graders have been hard at work learning about our Earth. They learned about the equator, prime meridian, and lines of latitude/ longitude! Below are a few pictures from our lesson! Way to Go 3rd grade!

Ice Cream!

I just love this picture of Tanayry and wanted to share it! This was the week that Tanayry was "Top Toucan". On Friday, she was rewarded with an ice cream! Way to Go Tanayry!

Twister!

What better way to learn the concepts of left and right than to play a game of TWISTER?
We had a great time, as you will see from the pictures below!
Lucy and Jonathan were actually VERY GOOD at Twister! We were very proud of them!

Enoch and Santoes were next. It was so precious watching the other students cheer the players on! They all did a great job!

Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Higdon even joined in on the fun!

Lucy actually beat Ms. Malcom! Ha! Ha!

Learning to Read!

We are so proud of all of our students! They are all working so hard to learn their sight words and read sentences consisting of sight words! I wanted to highlight Eliana and Tanayry in this post because they have progressed greatly in their reading skills in the past few weeks. I asked both of them to come up and read this writing sample that I created. With minimum assistance, they read the entire passage! We were all so proud of them and have made this a daily activity! Everyone seems to enjoy it! Below are a few pictures of Eliana and Tanayry reading!

Eyes and Ears!

On Wednesday, one of our great friends, Ms. Heidi, came by to visit and share a great lesson with our class. She had us make big ears and glasses. She talked to us about the importance of paying attention by using your eyes and ears. We had a great time with her and learned a lot!

We had so much fun making our glasses out of pipe cleaners! They were very cute too!

Ms. Heidi then read us Green Eggs and Ham. She encouraged us to use our ears to listen and our eyes to look at the book!

Enoch was so cute with his ears and glasses!

Joyria loved this lesson!

Thank you Ms. Heidi for preparing such a great lesson for us!

Happy Birthday Mrs. Higdon!

On February 2nd, Mrs. Higdon celebrated her birthday! We love birthday in our class and were so excited to be able to celebrate!
Below, the class sings "Happy Birthday" to Mrs. Higdon!

Lucy made Mrs. Higdon close her eyes as she snuck up on her with her birthday present!

Yay, a birdhouse!

We enjoyed many yummy treats!
