Our Miracle League Stars!

Last Friday night, Lexi and Eric had a Miracle League softball game! This year, once again, they are both on the Diamondbacks! Ms. Stowe, Mr. John (Ms. Stowe's husband), Ms. Malcom, Ms. Cassandra, and Tradarius all went to support our Miracle League Stars!!
Lexi smiles for the camera as she waits to bat!

Lexi's cousin, Dre, assists Lexi at bat! They both did an excellent job!

Eric also poses for the camera as he waits to bat! Go Eric!

Lexi and Dre play 3rd base!

Hmmm... I wonder what Tradarius enjoyed more, the game or the big plate of nachos that Mr. John, Ms. Stowe's husband, bought him! Tradarius is such a great friend to Lexi and Eric. He always asks Ms. Malcom to pick him up so that he can go cheer them on at their games!

After the game, Lexi, Eric, and Tradarius pose for a picture!!

GO DIAMONDBACKS!!!

Our Special Olympics Banner!

Each year for Special Olympics every school (elementary, middle, and high) create a banner that is entered into a banner contest. All of the banners are presented and judged at the Special Olympics Parade and Opening Ceremony!
Thanks to the creative ideas of Ms. Ford, we had a BEAUTIFUL banner this year to represent Fairview Elementary School!
Below are a couple of pictures of our students working on the banner!
Tradarius worked very diligently painting the letters in the words of our theme, "Together we Shine".

Lucy worked hard sprinkling glitter on the letters that Tradarius painted!

Tyrisha also participated in painting the banner!

Kayla and Tradarius are adding the finishing touches to the words of our theme!

Eric and Ms. Malcom took on the difficult task of ironing the transfers on the banner! With dedication, they got it done!

Ms. Stowe, Izaiah, and Tradarius work to secure the banner once it was completed!! You can tell by Izaiah's smile that he loved being involved in this process!

Ms. Malcom's class (and our therapy dog Carter) with the finished product!

Uh-Oh! The banner fell on our heads!! Ms. Stowe, just had to take this picture! Priceless!

Ms. Henderson's class with the finished product!

Thanks to Ms. Ford for the wonderful, creative "bus" idea! Thanks to Ms. Smallwood, our art teacher, that assisted us by drawing the Eagle (our school mascot). Thanks to all of Ms. Malcom's Class and Ms. Henderson's Class who helped to create such a beautiful work of art!

The theme stands true: TOGETHER WE SHINE!!!

Fun in the Gym!

Last week one of our favorite 2nd grade classes was rewarded for good behavior and given free time in the gym! They were so nice and invited our class to share their reward with them. Therefore, we all went to the gym for a time of fun!

Eric and Lexi hung out together in the gym! Eric loved the cups that you walk on and Lexi loved playing with the jump rope!

Usually very timid about trying new things, Eric tried out the rock climbing wall!! We were very proud of him and he was also proud of himself!

Tradarius was all over the rock climbing wall, climbing from wall to wall! He was very good at it!

Ms. Stowe and Tyrisha take time to play a game of catch with a basketball! They had a great time together!! Check out Izaiah playing basketball in the background!

Izaiah took time to relax on the mats!! He loved the mats!!

Tyrisha plays basketball with one of the 2nd grade students!! She had a lot of fun!

Thanks so much to Ms. Wands' 2nd grade class for being so kind and inviting our class to share in your reward!! You are all such great friends!

Happy Easter!!!

Due to the fact that our students are so much older this year, we decided not to have an egg hunt in celebration of the Easter holiday. Instead we had a scavenger hunt! Each student was given an index card with a riddle on it. Once the riddle was solved, they would know where to find their egg.

Izaiah's riddle led him to the sign in the front of the school. He was very happy to find his egg!

Tyrisha's riddle led her to the couch in Mr. Stegall's office (the assistant principal). She found her egg under one of the cushions on the couch.

Lucy's riddle led her to the outside plants that are located near the gym. Under one of the plants was her egg.

We always say that Ms. Ford's van has "magic doors" because they open when she pushes the button on her hand control. Lexi's riddle led her to Ms. Ford's van. Once she got there she was asked to say "Abracadabra". When she said it, the doors opened! Lexi's egg was sitting inside!

Eric's riddle led him to the microwave in Ms. Wyatt's office (the secretary). He was very happy to find his egg and giggled when he was told to open the microwave!

Tradarius' riddle led him to the room of one of our favorite Kindergarten classes! He knew exactly where his egg was located once his riddle was read to him!

This is our class picture after our Easter scavenger hunt! We had a great time!!

The Emperor's New Clothes- Eastside High School!

In early March, our class visited Eastside High School to watch their drama team perform a play titled "The Emperor's New Clothes". We greatly enjoyed this play and look forward to more in the future.

Izaiah, Tradarius, and Lucy pose for a picture before the play begins.

The rest of the class also poses for a picture before the play begins.

This costume was a class favorite. It was a horse costume with two people inside. One person was the front legs and head. The other person was the back legs. It was too cute!

Izaiah and Ms. Malcom pose for a picture after the play was over. Izaiah loved the play! So did Ms. Malcom!

Thanks to the members of the Eastside High School drama team for working so hard to perform such a great play! We greatly enjoyed it!!

Trip to Stevi B's Pizza! Yum!

After leaving Eastside High School we stopped by Stevi B's Pizza for lunch! The class poses for a picture in front of the restaurant!

Eric loved the pizza at Stevi B's! He especially loved the chocolate pizza!! I did too!

Kayla, Izaiah, and Tradarius sat with Ms. Malcom. We had a great time at our table and ate sooooo much!

Lexi also loved the chocolate pizza!!

Lexi, Tyrisha, Lucy, and Eric sat with Ms. Ford. They had a great time eating and talking!

Our trip to Stevi B's was so much fun!! We love buffets but more importantly we love spending time together!

Exceptional Children's Week General Ed. Class Visits!

During Exceptional Children's Week, General Ed. classes signed up to either visit our class or have our class visit their class. Several classes signed up to visit our class. Since our classroom trailer is so small, we decided to participate in activities (such as music and hop scotch) outside of our classroom. We also provided them with a short lesson celebrating the differences in ALL of us! This was an excellent program and one that I think everyone involved will always remember.
Ms. Finch's 2nd grade class was the first class to visit our classroom. Below, Ms. Stowe and Ms. Ford lead a short lesson on how they are different. For example, Ms. Stowe is tall, Ms. Ford is short. Ms. Stowe wears glasses, Ms. Ford doesn't wear glasses. The students in Ms. Finch's class were very eager to participate and learned a lot from the lesson!

Lucy, Kayla, and Lexi turn around to pose for a picture!! They loved having all of the 2nd grade students visit and play with them.

Together, our class and Ms. Finch's class participated in a song/ dance that Ms. Stowe wrote earlier in year titled "To the Left". The song/ dance was led by Izaiah and Tyrisha (in the middle of the circle).

Ms. Frix's 3rd grade class signed up for our class to visit their classroom. In Ms. Frix's class both classes joined together to participate in a game of Friendship BINGO. The squares on the BINGO cards were labeled with the names of students in both classes. Chips were placed on the boxes when the names of the students were called. Kayla quickly made a friend in Ms. Frix's class! This sweet young lady assisted Kayla with finding the names and placing her chips as the names were called.

Lexi also made a couple of friends in Ms. Frix's class! These students also assisted Lexi with Friendship BINGO!!

In addition, we visited many more classes, including 4th grade classes, 5th grade classes, and Kindergarten classes. Our friends in Ms. Kennedy's 4th grade class and Ms. Walden's 5th grade class were so thoughtful and even made us cards thanking us visiting them and picking up their lunch counts each morning.

This program was very fun and enlightening for all involved. It was a big hit and we have had requests to visit classes on a regular basis throughout the remainder of the school year! Several students have also came to our room asking to assist our students with reading, classwork, etc.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this program a success!

Exceptional Children's Week Awards Ceremony!

Exceptional Children's Week (March 3rd-7th)!

Exceptional Children's Week
March 3rd-7th
The week of March 3rd-7th was Exceptional Children's week.
Our school participated in a week of events recognizing different exceptionalities. We made 400 buttons and had a school-wide contest to see how many buttons we could sell. The class who purchased the most buttons won a popcorn party. With great support from our school, we sold every button. Congratulations to Ms. Wands’ class for winning the button contest.
We also had a poster contest and trivia contest that focused on famous people with disabilities. Prizes were awarded for the winners of these contests. We had school-wide classroom activities to show how “Egg-Ceptional” we all are.
Each day, our class visited other classes throughout the school. The purpose of these visits was to discuss and show the General Education population the technology we utilize in our class to assist us in learning. We also provided them a musical presentation as well as participated in activities such as Friendship BINGO.
The general education teachers were also presented with small tokens and daily devotionals as a gift of our appreciation. The feedback we received during Exceptional Children’s Week was amazing. The students of Fairview were eager to assist us in every possible way.
Mrs. Walden’s 5th grade class and Mrs. Kennedy’s 4th grade class presented our class and Ms. Henderson's class with very creative hand-made appreciation letters.
Exceptional Children’s Week was not just about recognizing students with disabilities, but learning the differences of others and how we are all “Exceptional” people. The constant support and dedication in such programs as Exceptional Children’s Week is what makes Fairview Elementary the #1 Elementary School.
