Mock Election!

On Election Day, our school held a mock election. In preparation for our mock election, we decided to have our own election in our classroom. We learned about the importance of voting and also learned a little about each candidate for President. Then, we took a vote. Each student was able to choose the candidate that they wanted to vote for and then complete the ballot for our school mock election.

Draylan volunteered to count up our votes. Our class winner was......

... Barak Obama!

Each student received a sticker for voting. Draylan decided to make a fashion statement with his! :-)

Mrs. Daphne (one of Newton County's Instructional Coaches) came by to visit our room. She had just voted. Therefore, she was able to show us a real election sticker. Draylan's fashion statement rubbed off on her too!

At lunch, we placed our mock election ballots in the boxes provided.

At the end of the day, all of the ballots were counted. Barak Obama was also named the winner for our school mock election!

CBI Trip to Scoops!

After we left the Pumpkin Patch, we walked to Scoops for some yummy treats!

Such a hard decision!

We bought our ice cream or cookies (whichever they chose)!

There were so many flavors to choose from!

Then, we just relaxed and enjoyed some good old friend time!

Thanks to Scoops for being so patient and accommodating. We definitely recommend them for anyone who is craving some sweet treats!

CBI Trip to the Pumpkin Patch!

I think we picked one of the coldest days for our CBI trip to the Pumpkin Patch, but we had such a great time!

This year, we decided to visit the Pumpkin Patch at the First Methodist Church of Covington. It is located off of the Covington Square!

First, they took us into the sanctuary where they read us two fun Halloween stories!

Then, we went into the fellowship hall where they had several games for us to play!

We even got to use stamps to paint Halloween pictures on our hands!

After playing games, we went out to the pumpkin patch. Each student got to pick out a small pumpkin. We also picked out a large pumpkin for us to carve in class. Ms. Vera (a friend that we met at the pumpkin patch, she worked there) was so sweet to us. She loved our class so much that she bought our big pumpkin for us. Thank you Ms. Vera!

Despite the cold and wind, we had a wonderful time. We can't wait to carve our pumpkin!

Red Ribbon Week!

We had lots of fun dressing up during Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a time when we commit ourselves to living a healthy, drug-free life. On Monday, everyone was to wear red. On Tuesday, everyone was to wear crazy ties. On Wednesday, everyone was to wear sweat suits or jogging suits. On Thursday, everyone was to wear a vest. On Friday, everyone was to wear their favorite team jersey. Below are some picture from Red Ribbon Week.

Once Again, We are in the News!

Oh boy! The news of Ms. Malcom being chosen as one of the TOP 3 teachers made it around the entire county!

Draylan the Mentor!

For the past couple of years, Draylan has worked so hard to improve his reading skills. He has made so much progress that now is able to mentor to our younger students. He is a great friend and a great "big brother". Way to go Draylan! We are soooo proud of you!

Hero Dogs!

For FUN FANTASTIC FRIDAY we read a current events article about the National Hero Dog Competition. Hero dogs are dogs that have been honored for helping people. After reading the article, we went onto the hero dogs website and read the stories of the eight finalists. Then, we chose our individual favorites so that we could cast our class vote!

After an initial vote, we had a tie. So.. We took another vote, voting on the two winning dogs. We came up with a winner and casted our class vote on the website!

After reading the article and casting our vote, we followed a picture recipe to make "Dog Chow" from cereal, powdered sugar, cake mix, and melted chocolate!

Our "dog chow" was delicious and a nice treat to go with our lunch!
