Class Pictures!

I didn't realize until last week that we've been working so hard that we haven't even taken a class picture yet! So... that's just what we did! Below are a few of the pictures that we took!

I just LOVE this group!

Fun Fantastic Friday- Making Tepees!

For last week's Fun Fantastic Friday activity, thanks to Mrs. Higdon, we made edible "tepees". The past few weeks, we have been learning about North American Native Americans and how they used their environment to obtain food, clothing, and shelter. We learned that many Native Americans lived in shelters called tepees. Tepees were usually made from animal skins. We decided to also make "tepees", although our "tepees" were edible!

Our "tepees" looked like this in the beginning!

Santoes was the teacher's helper because he was, once again, the "Class STARfish"! Way to go Santoes!

We learned that the Native Americans used to decorate their tepees by painting them, etc. Some of them were very beautiful! Of course, we had to decorate our "tepees" as well!

Looks like Jameer missed his "tepee". His icing ended up on his face! I wonder how that happened! :-)

Lucy adding the finishing touches to her "tepee"!
The finished product! Beautiful and delicious!

Thanks Mrs. Higdon for a wonderful and creative Fun Fantastic Friday activity! What a wonderful review of what we have learned about North American Native Americans!

Writing a Narrative Story!

For the past nine weeks, we have been learning about the elements of Narrative writing and how to write a Narrative story. To end this unit, we wrote our own stories! First, each group was responsible for developing a character. Then, each group was assigned a setting. They were responsible for creating a representation of the setting that they were assigned. Finally, each group was responsible for writing a story that included their character, setting, and the other elements of a Narrative story.
Ms. Malcom's group developed a character named "Ms. Malcom" (Lucy's idea- Imagine that!). The setting that they were assigned was the beach. Their story is below!

Mrs. Stowe's group developed a character named "Little Tracy". Their group was assigned the setting of the woods or forest. Their story is below! Jameer came up with the great idea of including the polar bear! :-)

Mrs. Higdon's group developed a character named "Daphne" (DeAsia's contribution). Their assigned setting was outer space. Enoch was quite helpful in choosing the methods of transportation and pet using his communication book. Their story is below!

We had a great time learning about the elements of Narrative writing and applying what we have learned by creating our own stories! We hope that you enjoy them!

When Teachers Cry!

I must say that, in my profession, I cry a lot! The good thing is, they are tears of joy! There is no better sound, to a teacher, than when you hear your non-readers work so hard to improve their reading skills and eventually READ!! We have worked so hard over the past nine weeks to improve our reading skills and learn to read. When we pull out our reading books, our students actually get excited to "show off" what they have learned. What a wonderful feeling! Below, are a few pictures of our reading groups, working so hard, last week!

I am so proud of all of our students and their hard work! I look forward to watching them progress, even more, throughout the year!

Fun Fantastic Friday- Brown Bear, Brown Bear!

Last Friday, our Fun Fantastic Friday activity focused on the popular story Brown Bear, Brown Bear! This is one of my favorite stories to read each year!
First, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear on the ActivBoard!

Then, everyone was given a color word. They had to color their color word the appropriate color and place it on our "Color Word Name" chart. Santoes did a great job and went over all of our colors!

Finally, it was time for our Fun Fantastic Friday activity. I guess you can tell who the "Class STARfish" was this week! Way to go Eliana!

For our Fun Fantastic Friday activity, we made our own "brown bear" sundaes!

Eliana did a great job passing out everything that was needed to make our sundaes!

DeAsia loved making her "brown bear". She was even more exited to eat it!

After adding "ears" (cookies) as well as a nose and eyes (butterscotch chocolate chips), it was time to add brown sprinkles to make our bear look like the brown bear from the story!

The finished product. Too cute!

Tony smiled the entire time his sprinkles were added!

Enoch thought his "brown bear" sundae was YUMMY!

Mr. Marcus, our OT, came by at the end of our Fun Fantastic Friday activity. Little did we know, he is a great guitarist! He played a few songs for us. We had a blast!

A Couple of Fun Pictures!

This is such a cute picture of La'Shawn! He got this hat out of the prize box and was so proud of it!

We now call Enoch our "silly band man"! He had some very interesting silly bands the other day! :-) Of course, we had to take his picture!

This is a favorite indoor-recess activity for all. They absolutely love hitting a water balloon back and forth! Its a good thing the weather is getting cooler so we can go outside and play!

Joyria LOVES playing with the kitchen set during indoor-recess! What a beautiful smile!

I just wanted to share a couple of these cute pictures with you! We have the most precious students!

Graphing!

For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about graphs as well as how to create graphs by organizing sets of data. We have mainly focused on pictographs and bar graphs (so far)! Below are a few pictures of some of the graphs we have made!
First, we made a pictograph that representing the lunch choices that we made on our CBI trip to McDonalds!

We also made a bar graph representing the water balloons that each group was given. This graph required us to first sort the water balloons by color! This was fun!

We also used a word problem, about the number of books Lucy, La'Shawn, and Enoch read, to create a pictograph! This one was a little more difficult, but we all did a great job!

As you can see, we have been hard at work! I know that we will learn so much more this year!

Welcome Jameer!

We would like to WELCOME Jameer, our new friend, to our class!!
We were so happy to hear that we would be getting a new student in our class. When we met Jameer, we were even more excited! Jameer is a very sweet boy and has already made many new friends in our school. He works hard in class and, in his second week, has already been chosen as the "Class STARfish"! Now, that is something to celebrate!

Welcome to our class Jameer! We are very happy to have you as our new friend! We look forward to a great school year with you!

Fun Fantastic Friday- Bird Feeders!

The week before this Fun Fantastic Friday activity, we studied how changes in habitats can affect the plants and animals that live there. We talked about deforestation and forest fires and how they affect birds by destroying their homes and food sources. Mrs. Stowe came up with the great idea to make peanut butter bird feeders to "give back" to the birds that live around our school!

Since Joyria was the "Class STARfish" this week, she was the "helper" during our Fun Fantastic Friday activity. She was thrilled!

Joyria took her job as "helper" quite seriously!

Eliana and Enoch getting ready to make their bird feeders!

Ms. Edwards, our substitute for the day, jumped right in to help! Thanks Ms. Edwards!

DeAsia loved making the bird feeders. I think I saw her sneak a few tastes of peanut butter when she thought we were not looking! Ha! Ha!

Eliana and Enoch still working hard! If I were a bird, I would love their feeders!

Thanks Mrs. Stowe for thinking of the birds that live outside of our school! I'm sure they were quite thankful for their yummy treats!
