We had so much fun at our Special Olympics parade!
We saw some of our old friends, like D'Andre. He is at Middle Ridge Elementary now!
Tony got to ride in the front of the truck with Ms. Cassandra. Thank you Ms. Cassandra for taking time out of your day to drive us in the parade!
We were all smiles!
We also saw Enoch. He is a Clements Middle School!
It was so neat to drive by the students from the Newton County Theme School and First Baptist Church Pre-School. They made banners for our athletes and cheered us on!
Ms. Kelli (Ms. Malcom's sister) as well as Baby Blair and Judd also cheered us on. Aunt Ann (Ms. Malcom's great-aunt) and McKinsley (Ms. Malcom's little cousin) were also there!
We saw Tony's mom and dad!
We saw Ms. Malcom's grandma and paw-paw!
We saw Ava's mom, dad, and little brother Ashton!
We were so happy to see our family members after the parade too!
After the parade, it was time for our Opening Ceremonies and banner contest. Ms. Malcom and friends took our banner down to the field to be judged!
Our banner was judged and we WON 2nd place out of all of the elementary schools. Way to go South Salem!!
Opening Ceremonies is always a special time. The color guard presents the flags, we say the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem is sung, we say the "Special Olympics Oath", a prayer is said, and the senior athletes run the torch. It is truly beautiful!
Let the games begin!!!
Thanks to all who came out to support our wonderful athletes. On this day, they were very proud of themselves. They should be!
