Thanks to the Mitchell Family! :-)

We had a very special surprise today!
Jameer's family went to Folly Beach (near Charleston, SC) over the long weekend. Today, Jameer's dad brought very special goody bags (full of treats, souvenirs, and seashells) for each student and teacher. Mrs. Higdon, Mrs. Stowe, and I were sooooo proud of our conch shells.
Thanks so much to Jameer and the rest of the Mitchell family. They were so sweet and thought of us while they were out of town on vacation! We love you all!

Spelling Test!

On Monday, Lucy sat at the table to take her spelling test. Eliana walked over and, in the clearest sentence that I've heard her say this year, said "I want to take a spelling test". Of course, we jumped at the opportunity to see what she could do.
So... we sat her behind Lucy and gave her all of the materials that she would need. I must admit that I wasn't sure how she would do. It was the first time that she had ever shown an interest in the way that words are spelled. We began the spelling test and Eliana participated fully as Lucy wrote her words.
When it was over, I took a look at Eliana's paper. She had spelled EVERY single word right! Yay! Even better news, we had two 100% that day!! Way to go Lucy and Eliana! We are so proud of you both!

To: Jameer; Love: Tony!

This story is one of the sweetest of the year. This morning, Jameer did not come to school. When Tony arrived and noticed that Jameer was absent, he got a very sad look on his face. I asked him where he thought Jameer was and he said that Jameer was sick. I then asked him if he wanted to make Jameer a card. He became very excited and said that he wanted to. I laid all of the materials on the table (folded construction paper, crayons, etc.) and walked away for just a second. When I returned, Tony had already written Jameer's name on the front of the card! I was amazed and thought it was precious!

Tony and I talked about what he wanted to write to Jameer. Below is what we came up with!

Tony then wanted to draw a picture of him and Jameer. He drew the picture below of him and Jameer holding hands!

As adults, we cherish friendships such as these! I was so moved by Tony's concern with Jameer's absence and his display of kindness! The love of a child is an amazing thing!

Jameer, please come back to school on Tuesday! I don't think Tony can tolerate another day without you! :-)

Ballroom Dancing at the CBI Room!

We couldn't celebrate Valentine's day without the annual Malcom class Valentine's ballroom dancing. So... we all got dressed up and prepared for our dance. The girls loved dressing up and looked so pretty!

Tony was quite excited to be wearing one of Mr. Gene's (Mrs. Higdon's husband) ties!

I think the boys enjoyed dressing up just as much as the girls!

Even Baby Blair got in the spirit!

Joyria looked so beautiful all dressed up!

Group shot of the kiddos all dressed up!

The entire group, minus Mrs. Kelli!

Jameer, Tony, and Joyria waiting for their turn to dance!

... and let the dancing begin!

Our dancing partners...

We had such a blast on our CBI trip! Happy Valentine's Day!!! <3

Cooking at the CBI Room- Part 2!

... Continued from previous post!
Once our pizza was done, we were ready to eat! Mrs. Kelli also brought us some Little Cesear's pizza and breadsticks to go with our pizzas! Thank you Mrs. Kelli!

The finished products!

Yum! Yum!

Cooking at the CBI Room!

On Valentine's day, we went on a trip to the CBI room. Our plan was to do some cooking and ballroom dancing. We were so excited and couldn't wait to get started!

We had some work to do at first. The first thing that we were going to make was green fruit salad. Joyria and DeAsia's assignment was to determine what kinds of fruit we would put in our salad. Santoes was then responsible for counting the fruits that we would use!

Following the recipe for green fruit salad, Lucy and Eliana got to work washing our fruit!

Everyone got a chance to help Mrs. Higdon cut up the fruit and add it to the fruit salad!

Mrs. Stowe and Lucy pose for a quick picture!

Uh-Oh! Someone got caught eating the fruit before we were able to put it in the fruit salad! :-)

Next, it was time to make our pizza!

We had to spread out the dough!

We had to add pizza sauce!

We added pepperoni and cheese!

While our pizzas were cooking, we prepared to bake cookies!

We were so excited that Baby Blair and Mrs. Kelli stopped by to celebrate Valentine's day with us! Baby Blair loved baking cookies!

DeAsia passed out cups to all of her friends!

To be continued....

Reading with Mrs. Foster!

On Monday morning, one of our good friends, Mrs. Foster, stopped by to read a story with us! The students loved listening to Mrs. Foster and they did a fabulous job assisting her in reading the book! Thanks Mrs. Foster! Come by any time!

Snow without the Snow Day!

For those of you that know me very well, you know that there are few things in life that I love more than snow! Winter is my favorite season and I get so excited when there is a chance of snow in the forecast! With the snow dances and frequent visits to the weather channel, I think I have passed my love on to my precious students! Sooo.. when it snowed last week, we had to get outside and play a little!

Group shot! 7 out of 8 looking at the camera = not bad! The trick was Mrs. Stowe throwing snow up in the air! Ha! Ha!

Mrs. Higdon, Mrs. Stowe, and Ms. Malcom. Lucy took this picture for us! Thanks Lucy!

We couldn't go back inside without a snowball fight!

Jameer got caught trying to get me with a snowball! :-)

Fun Fantastic Friday- Snowmen

On Friday, for Ms. Malcom's Fun Fantastic Friday activity, we made snowman. First, we read a story called Where is Snowy's Nose? It was a very cute and fun story. Then, we got to work!
Painting is one of our favorite activities so we were very excited to begin painting!

After painting, we added some cotton to complete our snow scene!

We made snowmen that looked just like Snowy (from the story)!

Our finished products! They turned out sooooo cute!
