Special Olympics Closing Ceremony!

After the Parade, we all gathered in the Sharp gym for the Closing Ceremony. We didn't take many pictures at the Closing Ceremony, but below are some that we did take!

DeAsia wanted to hold Baby Blair! She was so sweet with her and they had a great time together!

Ms. Malcom poses for a picture with one of her former students, Tradarius! I miss this kid very much!

Mrs. Stowe was soooo happy to see Tradarius as well!

After the Closing Ceremony, we had hot dogs!

It was nice to have Mrs. Sterling (La'Shawn's mother), Mrs. McDonald (Lucy's mother), Ms. Angie (Lucy's aunt), Kelli, and Baby Blair join us for the Closing Ceremony and picnic! You all are wonderful!

That ends our week of Special Olympics! We had a GREAT time! Thanks to all who supported us and took time out of their day to join us! A SPECIAL THANKS to Mrs. Stowe and Mrs. Higdon for being so wonderful this entire week (as they always are) and encouraging our kids to be proud of themselves!

Special Olympics Parade!

Last Friday, we headed to Sharp field for the Special Olympics Parade. We were supposed to have the parade on Monday, but due to inclement weather, it was rescheduled for Friday. We were so excited!

Ms. Malcom and Mrs. Stowe ran into some of their old friends (former students) who are now in middle school. It was so wonderful to see Tyrisha, Tradarius, the triplets (Avia, Kyla, and Tamya), Lexi, and Eric! We sure do love them and miss them very much! It is so wonderful, however, to see them all grown up, happy, and doing well!

DeAsia ran into one of her good friends, Ms. Bell (our Adaptive PE paraprofessional). We all love her!

Ms. Cassandra (Ms. Malcom's best friend) was nice enough to get off of work and drive us in the parade. Ms. Kelli and Baby Blair also met us there! Thank You Ms. Cassandra!

And... the Parade begins!

La'Shawn got to sit up front (in the truck) with Ms. Cassandra. He was quite excited and they enjoyed each other!

Ms. Malcom's class in the parade! That's Mrs. Dubois (our Principal) walking beside our truck!

Another picture of our class in the parade!

Ms. Malcom's mother (who works at Ficquett Elementary) was so kind to have some of her Kindergarten students make signs for the parade. I love the one that Ms. Malcom's mother is holding. It says "We Love Ms. Malcom's Class!". So sweet!

We had lots of people come out and cheer us on. We saw Lucy's mother, grandmother, and aunt!

Baby Blair was all dressed for the occasion. The back of her shirt says "Ms. Malcom's Class Mascot"! And... That, she is! :-)

You can tell, by the smile on Lucy's face, how much fun we had. DeAsia also kept saying "Weee.. This is fun!". Precious!

We were all so proud of Mrs. Dubois (our Principal). It was sooooo HOT on this day. However, she ran, beside our truck, the entire parade! That is one dedicated Principal! Thank you so much Mrs. Dubois for all of your support!

We also saw La'Shawn's mother along the way!
WAY TO GO SOUTH SALEM SPARTANS!!!!!!!!

So Proud!

When we returned from the Awards Ceremony, of course we had to get a group shot with our trophies and banner!
:-) Notice Aaron (on the bottom row) kissing his trophy! That's what you call PROUD!! Love it!

Special Olympics Awards Ceremony!

Last Thursday, we headed to Turner Lake for our Special Olympics Awards Ceremony!

La'Shawn was so excited to go to the Awards Ceremony so that he could "show off" his TOP TOUCAN necklace! La'Shawn was our TOP TOUCAN last week and deserved every bit of it!

At the Awards Ceremony, each student was awarded a trophy for their hard work and determination in Special Olympics this year! This day, every year, is their time to SHINE!!

Santoes and Enoch pose for a picture as they wait for their name to be called!

Every student was also given a door prize ticket. We all waited eagerly for our number to be called!

The pictures below are of some of our students getting their awards! Ms. Stubbs, our previous Special Ed. Director (who retired last year) gave our students their awards! Thank You Ms. Stubbs!

Lucy poses with her trophy!

Santoes won a door prize!

Lucy poses with her Aunt Angie! The hat is the door prize that she chose when she won!

Ms. Malcom got to see one of her former students, Jamarcous, at the Awards Ceremony! It is always great to see our former students! We truly miss them but love to see how much they have grown!

Ms. Malcom was so proud of all of our students! High Five!

This Awards Ceremony is so special to our students! It gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment for all of their hard work in Special Olympics! Way to Go Ms. Malcom's Class!

After we completed our events, there were several things for us to do! There was a station to get drinks, a station to get tattoos, and a station to pet several animals!

La'Shawn mother (Mrs. Sterling) and neighbor were able to join us at the events and cheer La'Shawn on! La'Shawn's helper (Ms. Tonya) was also wonderful with him!

DeAsia's father (Mr. Williams) also came by! He joined us at our picnic, following the events!

You can tell by the smile on Lucy's face that the Special Olympics Track & Field events were a success!

We had a GREAT time at the Special Olympics Track & Field events. I want to say THANK YOU to all of the parents, family, and friends who came out to support our students! It was great to see all of you there! I also want to say THANK YOU to all who made the events possible!
