Something Strange Happened!

Yesterday, Mrs. Higdon read a story to us about a little green leprechaun that snuck into your house and played tricks on you. If you left a treasure box out, the leprechaun would fill it with treats and goodies. If you found the treasure box, after the leprechaun hid it, you could keep the treats and goodies that he left!

We didn't believe Mrs. Higdon but we decided to give it a try. So, we made a treasure box to leave out for the leprechaun. We told the students to not be too excited because the leprechaun would probably be too busy to visit South Salem!

Well, TODAY something VERY strange happened in our class! The Leprechaun came!!!
He snuck in and definitely displayed his "tricks" around our room! Ms. Malcom didn't know what to think!
Neither did Mrs. Stowe!

This was a very silly leprechaun! He knocked over the rocking chair that we use for Rocking Chair Reading Time, knocked over La'Shawn's walker..........

He threw all of the clips on the floor, rolled around in the Rolling Chair, opened Mrs. Higdon's umbrella, and moved Miss Piggy to La'Shawn's desk.............

He leaned all of the chairs back at the students' desks and put Ms. Malcom's chair on top of her desk! That silly leprechaun!

He also left a trail of clovers. We knew, from our story yesterday, that we were supposed to follow the trail of clovers to find the treasure box that we left for the leprechaun to fill!

Guess what???? He filled it!
The leprechaun left treats and goodies for each student in our class. Even Miss Piggy got a special treat bag of Timothy Hay from the leprechaun!
Lucy and Mrs. Stowe were the ones that actually led us to our treasure box! Then, Lucy passed out all of our treasures!

DeAsia was thrilled to see what was in her treat bag!

This has got to be the funniest video that I have recorded. The video below is of the students as they walked into our room this morning and saw what the leprechaun had done. As you will see, some of our students were VERY surprised. However, some of them (ENOCH and AARON mainly) were not even phased!! Ha! Ha! MAKE SURE YOU PUSH PAUSE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER (TO THE RIGHT OF THE BLOG) SO THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR THE VIDEO! You won't want to miss it!

As you can see, we had a fun St. Patrick's Day in Ms. Malcom's class!

We Are Special!

Our theme in Health this week is "Me and My Feelings". We have been learning about how each one of us are special in our own ways, how we feel happy and sad, and how we can deal with our anger in a positive manner.
For homework last night, everyone was asked to draw a picture of how they are special and write a sentence about it! Today, Mrs. Higdon made a beautiful bulletin board, outside of our classroom, to display the students' homework!

I just love this! We do all bloom differently. We are also, like a flower bloom, all beautiful in our own ways!

Enoch's homework was too cute! Enoch is special because he is "positive, outgoing, and loving". That is DEFINITELY Enoch!

La'Shawn is special because he is "very loving". La'Shawn definitely is very loving and we love him very much!

Lucy is special because she "can play baseball". Lucy plays baseball on the Miracle League! Ms. Malcom and Mrs. Stowe have been to watch her play and she sure does do an EXCELLENT job!

Thanks to Lucy, Enoch, and La'Shawn for sharing your homework with us! You all did an OUTSTANDING job!!!

Cute Pictures from Last Week!

This blog post is sort of random. It is of cute pictures from last week that I came across! Enjoy!
Lucy and La'Shawn are the best of friends! If you ask Lucy who her best friend in the class is, she will say "La'Shawn" without a doubt!

Santoes loves playing with the stuffed animals during indoor recess!

DeAsia and her Elmo! That's all I can say! :-) The funny thing is, the headphones were not even plugged in!

What an interesting face Enoch has in this picture!

Out of all of the things in our classroom that these two could choose to play with during indoor recess, Lucy and La'Shawn chose to play with the Alphabet Center! These two are so studious!

Aaron LOVES the Sit & Spin!! He could spin for days!

Miss Piggy has been paying very close attention in Occupational Therapy when we work on cutting skills! She uses her teeth to cut a perfect line down the paper! Ha! Ha!

Kite Day and More Playground Fun!

Last week it was finally windy enough to go outside and fly kites! We had so much fun!
Lucy LOVES the slide! She loves to play with her friend La'Shawn on the slide!

Santoes has such a great time on the playground!

Flying kites was so much fun!

Everyone loves the jungle gym!

This is such a cute picture of Aaron! He is our little climber!

This is also a cute picture of DeAsia and Ms. Higdon! DeAsia looks like a little teacher!

We love our Friends!

We had a fabulous time in Occupational Therapy on Tuesday! Not only did we get to work on our scissor cutting and fine motor skills, we also got to make friendship bracelets in the process!
Below, Ms. LaVerne explains to us what we will be doing!

Ms. Stowe helps DeAsia cut the straws that we will use to make our bracelets!

Santoes works hard with assistance from Ms. LaVerne!

Ms. Malcom works with Aaron on threading the straws on his pipe cleaner (bracelet)! Santoes does an excellent job cutting his straw independently!

Ms. Higdon puts Joyria's finished product (her friendship bracelet) on her arm!

I love this picture of all of our friendship bracelets! We truly love all of the friends in our class and enjoy the time that we get to spend together!

Thank you so much Ms. LaVerne for such a wonderful activity! We loved it!

Exceptional Children's Week Party!!!

On Friday we had our Exceptional Children's Week Party and at South Salem Elementary we KNOW how to Party!!
We had popsicles, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, the playground, a kickball game, and friends. What more did we need?
Even Mrs. Dubois (our principal) came out to Party with us! Below, Mrs. Dubois, Lucy, and La'Shawn play with the bubbles!

Wow Mrs. Dubois! That's one big bubble!

Aaron loved the bubbles! He sat there for a while trying to blow one!

The popsicles were a huge hit! Many students came back for seconds!

What a big smile Jordan has!

DeAsia loved her popsicle!

Sarah Grace smiles and waves for the camera before going to play with her good friend Lucy!

Even Coach Sloop was able to join our party!

DeAsia loves her Auntie (AKA- Mrs. Watson)!

Mrs. Foster takes time to chat with Aaron and Aiden!

Mrs. Higdon gives Coach Sloop his popsicle! I wonder what's so funny!

Ms. Malcom made sure that everyone got a popsicle! For a second there, she was a very popular lady! Ha! Ha!

Seth has a beautiful smile!

The sidewalk chalk was also a big hit! There were some very beautiful pictures drawn on the sidewalk!

Mr. Michael, with the help of a few others, helped lead the kickball game! Thanks!
Lucy playing kickball!

La'Shawn kicking the ball!

These big boys were so sweet! Whenever La'Shawn got to a base, they would raise their hands and yell "Safe"! How sweet!

They did it for the little kids too! Noah was "safe"!

Some of the students opted to play on the playground. Ms. Merry, one of DeAsia's dear friends, was nice enough to push DeAsia on the swing!

Ms. Culpepper pushed Brianna on the swing!

These boys (and girl) had a blast on the jungle gym!

Santoes had so much fun on the playground. He didn't want to get on the bus to go home!

As you can see, there was a lot of fun had by ALL!!! I want to Thank EVERYONE that helped make Exceptional Children's Week a success! I truly appreciate each one of you! Our students had a fabulous week, one that they truly deserved!
Love, Ms. Malcom
